Welcome to the Schoenholtz Lab

branch

The Forest Hydrology and Soils Lab at Virginia Tech’s Department of Forest Resources and Environmental Conservation is led by Dr. Stephen Schoenholtz. The focus of the lab is the interaction between land management and water and soil resources. Our research interests include:

  • land management impacts on water and soil quality
  • the ecology and management of forested wetlands and riparian zones
  • the restoration of degraded ecosystems
  • biogeochemistry
  • criteria and indicators of sustainable land management

Dr. Schoenholtz is also the director of the Virginia Water Resources Research Center.  The center’s mission is to offer research and educational opportunities to water scientists and students, and provide citizens and government leaders with water science information.
